Marc Lewis was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri where he was a standout athlete at Columbia Rock Bridge High School. In 1978 he signed a Letter of Intent to play football at Missouri Western where he was a 4-year letter winner for former Griffon Head Coach Rob Hicklin.
In Marc’s first two years he saw action at wide receiver, tight end, quarterback, and running back and was chosen MVP in two games. In 1979 he was awarded the Central States Intercollegiate Conference (CSIC) Player of the Week against Washburn University. In 1980 Marc received Honorable Mention All-Conference (CSIC) honors and was a NAIA All-District 16 selection. As a senior Marc was 2nd team All-Conference (CSIC), MVP in two games, Griffon Offensive MVP for the year, and voted the Griffon’s Most Outstanding Athlete in September. Marc finished his career 6th in career receiving yards (1,439), and 5th in total catches with 76.
Marc signed a professional football contract with the Oakland Invaders of the United States Football League in 1982. In 1983, Marc was 2nd in the league in return yards. He signed a new contract in 1985 with the Denver Gold where he was the game MVP vs. the Arizona Wranglers. That year he finished 7th in receiving yards (1,195) and 6th in catches with 75. Marc moved on to the Canadian Football League in 1986, playing for the Ottawa Roughriders, leading the squad in receiving with 71 catches for 1,797 yards and six touchdowns, becoming the teams MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. Lewis played two more seasons in the CFL, ending his career with the Calgary Stampeders in 1988. Marc still holds the Ottawa single season record for receptions in a season (1987) with 94.
After a stellar football career, Marc settled in St. Joseph with his wife Allison Widner Lewis and is currently a sales representative for a Fortune 1,000 company.Â
