Tonya Foster is one of the most successful players to ever suit up for the Missouri Western women’s basketball team despite playing only two seasons for the University. She played the first two seasons of her college career at Butler County Community College.
Foster led the Griffons to two straight Elite Eight appearances in 1994 and 1995. During those two campaigns, the teams finished 29-3 and 31-3 respectively. The team finished undefeated in MIAA play in 1993-94 and reached the Final Four one year later in 1994-95. She played in 66 games throughout her career and tallied 446 field goals and 163 free-throws for a total of 1,055 points which places her 14th all-time in career points scored. Foster’s career average was 16.0 points per game which is the fourth best scoring average in program history.
The single-season field goal percentage (.618 – 1993-94) and career field goal percentage (.593 – 1993-95) team records belong to Foster as well. She holds the career (203 – 1993-95) and single season (115 – 1994-1995) records for blocked shots. Foster received honorable mention All-American honors during her junior campaign and also received the title of MIAA Player of the Year.
