Christine Sumrell, born in Atlanta, Georgia, was a highly sought after student-athlete at Henderson High School in Atlanta. The birth of Missouri Western’s women’s athletics program provided her with the opportunity to continue her multi-sport career. She came to Missouri Western in 1976 where she continued to excel at the college level in three sports.
Christine was a 4-year letterwinner in Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis. She earned CSIC All-Conference honors in Basketball (1979), Volleyball (1978 and 1979) and Tennis (1978 and 1979). In 1979, Chris was named to the NAIA All-District 16 team in Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis. She was a member of three National Tournament teams in Volleyball and participated in two National Tennis Championships.
Christine graduated from Missouri Western in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commercial Recreation with a minor in Outdoor Education. After leaving Western she went on to play competitive tennis and softball in the Kansas City area.
Upon graduation Christine began her career working for the St. Joseph Parks and Recreation Department as Assistant Manager of the Bode Ice Arena and the St. Joseph city pools. From 1982 through 1997, she moved to Kansas City to take management positions with The Ski & Tennis Market, The Athlete’s Foot, Mast Advertising and Snapper Power Mowers. In 1994 she was the founder and president of the women’s non for profit charity organization “Women with One Voice”. In 1998, Chris opened her own business, HERizon Golf.
Currently she is the sales rep with Ashworth Golf for the state of Kansas.
