Merrill Masters, born in Oregon, Missouri, was one of six players who began their careers at Missouri Western and went on to be the first class of 4-year letter winners in Missouri Western history.
Merrill began his college career as a member on the first Missouri Western football team in 1970. In 1972 he was one of the first Griffon football players to be named to the NAIA All-District 16 football team. In 1973 he was voted, by his teammates, the outstanding defensive player of the year. His accomplishments on the field earned him Honorable Mention All-America accolades as a defensive lineman, the first Griffon football All-American in school history. In the classroom he was named to the Dean’s Honor List for outstanding scholastic success.
Merrill went on to earn his Masters Degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State in 1987. He has spent time teaching and coaching at Morris, Oklahoma, Haskell, Oklahoma, and Beggs, Oklahoma. Currently Merrill is the High School Principle at Beggs, Oklahoma
Merrill and his wife Debbie have two son’s, Matt and Jacob, and two grandchildren, Laykin and Luke.
