John Fisher was a stand-out athlete for the Missouri Western football team as a two-way player throughout his career (1992-1995) as a Griffon. Fisher tied for the team lead (with four other individuals) for the most interceptions (2) during the 1993 season and finished with the most return yards off of interceptions for 114 yards. The MIAA honored him with first-team honors at defensive back for the 1994 season.
He received the chance to focus on offense during his senior campaign in 1995 and led the team and league in several offensive categories. Fisher holds the program record for scoring the most points and touchdowns in a single game against Southwest Baptist with five touchdowns (four rushing) for 30 points. He finished the season with 1,274 rushing yards (240 attempts) and 11 touchdowns. He added another three receiving touchdowns and one two-point conversion for a team-high 86 points on the year. Fisher tallied four 150-yard rushing performances on the year with his highest total coming against Southwest Baptist (179 yards). Fisher is one of five Griffons to rush for more than 150 yards on four different occasions throughout his career.
He received All-MIAA first team honors, Daktronics/CoSIDA second-team All-American status and membership to the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American third-team for his outstanding effort during the 1995 campaign. He sits fifth all-time for career (1993-95) rushing touchdowns with 18, ninth for total career touchdowns with 23 and 11th in points scored with 152.
At the conclusion of his senior year, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Fisher in the sixth round (170th overall pick) of the 1995 NFL draft.
