ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season as they defeated Arkansas Tech 4-2 at Genesis Health Club in St. Joseph. The Griffons even their record at 1-1.
It's the first win for MWSU over Arkansas Tech. They had struggled in their three previous meetings as Western had scored only one point or less in each match against the Golden Suns.
The Griffons set the tone early Sunday by winning two doubles matches to earn the doubles point against Arkansas Tech, who was picked to finish fourth in the Great American Conference.
Anya Chavez,
Isabella MacGibbon and
Nicole Donnelly won their singles matches to clinch the victory for Missouri Western so Karolina Strom didn't have to finish her match at No. 1 singles, but she was leading in the third.
The Griffons will have nearly three weeks off before they compete again as they will host Cowley Community College and Missouri Valley on Friday, February 19 at Genesis Health Club in St. Joseph.
