Track and Field competes at PSU Tune-Up, Carillo wins 800m open

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Griffon Track & Field competed at the Pittsburg State Tune-Up Meet, highlighted by a standout performance from Yesenia Carillo in the middle-distance events.

Carillo led the way for MoWest in the women's 800-meter races, capturing a first-place finish in the open section with a time of 2:22.72. Bailey Cutler followed with a fourth-place finish in the invite section at 2:24.94. Maizie Hageman placed 12th in the open race 2:35.94, while Brianna DeBord finished 13th with a time of 2:40.99.

In the men's 1500-meter run, Aidan Jumper paced the Griffons with a seventh-place finish in 4:13.32. Dylan Stout added a 10th-place showing at 4:15.21, while Adam Ducey (4:29.20 and Levi Huber 4:31.39 placed 16th and 17th, respectively. On the women's side, Hailey McKinney finished 29th in 5:00.00.

Abbey Henry turned in a strong day in the field events, placing eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29 meters (37-0.50) and adding a 16th-place finish in the long jump at 5.27 meters (17-3.50).

Kelsi Fair contributed in the throws, finishing 18th in the hammer throw at 39.32 meters (129-0) and 20th in the shot put with a mark of 11.69 meters (38-4.25).

In the women's javelin, Maddison McMillian led MoWest with a seventh-place throw of 38.12 meters (125-1), while Taylor Wood placed 13th at 29.03 meters (95-3). Abby Molloy recorded a no mark.

On the men's side, Dawson Miller led the javelin group with a 10th-place finish at 47.38 meters (155-5) and also placed 15th in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.51 meters (159-2). Tate Youtsey followed in 12th in the javelin (45.27m), with Jackson Sigrist placing 18th (34.89m).

Interim head coach Sean Gosewisch noted the team's success in specific areas, pointing to the middle-distance group as a highlight.

"The Pitt meet was a success for certain event groups, most notably the mid distance with Yesi's win in the open 800 and a pair of top 10 finishes in the men's 1500," Gosewisch said. "I also think Abbey Henry did well for herself in her jumping events. It's a quick turnaround for some athletes next week, but we'll be ready."
