ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Track & Field will be back in action this weekend, competing in two meets on Jan. 30–31. The Griffons will open the weekend at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan., hosted at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility on the campus of Washburn University, before also sending athletes to the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Grinnell, Iowa, hosted by Grinnell College.

Here is a breakdown of the Griffon student-athletes competing across the two meets.

Friday, Jan. 30 – Washburn Open
MoWest will be represented heavily in the distance events, led by Kayden Crigger, Mason McCain, Sam Shipp, and Mason Orscheln on the men's side of the 5K, while Abby Kinney competes in the women's 5K. In the middle distances, Meagan Smith and Maizie Hageman will run the 600 yards. Field events on Friday include Abbey Henry in the triple jump, Dawson Miller in the weight throw, Makenzie Garr in the shot put, and Kelsi Fair in the shot put.

Saturday, Jan. 31 – Washburn Open
Saturday's action features a strong showing in the men's 3K with Joshua Zachary, Wimach Gilo, and Ryan Ringgenberg. Abbey Henry returns to compete in the long jump, while Makenzie Garr is scheduled for the weight throw.

Saturday, Jan. 31 – Grinnell Invitational
MoWest will also compete at Grinnell, led by Henry Trumpp in the 3K/mile. The men's 5K group includes Adam Ducey, Levi Huber, and Logan Soedt. In the 800, Angelo Baez-Mahr, Dylan Stout, Aidan Jumper, and Brianna DeBord are scheduled to run, while Yesenia Carrillo will compete in the 400. Kaleigh Harvey is set for the 3K/mile, with Abby Molloy and Maddie McMillan representing the Griffons in the shot put. The day wraps up with the men's 4x400 relay.

Interim Head Coach Sean Gosewisch shared his thoughts heading into the Washburn Open, saying, "We're excited to get back to competing after an unfortunate cancellation due to weather. This meet has historically been very competitive, and we look to take advantage of that and execute some season bests. Each opportunity counts at this point in the season, so we're going in with the intention to give it our all and see how we stack up."
