Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western baseball (13-28, 11-19 MIAA) dropped the season series finale to Northwest Missouri State Tuesday, as the Bearcats came away with an 8-5 win at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex.
The Griffs won the first two games of the series earlier this season – 4-0 on March 26 and 12-2 on April 9.
Northwest's big inning was the fourth when Ashton Neuman blasted a three-run bomb to right center with two outs to put the Bearcats ahead 6-2 at that point.
Trailing 8-2 after the seventh, Missouri Western got three runs back in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to an
Easton Mains sac fly and a two-run RBI double by
Carson Shear.
Will Kennedy tossed the last two innings for the Griffs, and he held the 'Cats without a hit in that time, but Missouri Western was put down in order in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
The Griffs were limited to six hits and left seven runners on base.
Micah Diamond (0-2) took the loss, making his third start of the season and going a season-best 3.2 innings. He struck out a season-best four, but was tagged with five earned runs.
Six different Griffons had a hit. Shear led the way with two RBIs.
Jett Grossart walked twice and scored.
Easton Mains had a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Missouri Western has its final home series of the season coming up this weekend. The Griffons welcome No. 19 Pittsburg State to town, with the first game of the series set for Friday at 6 p.m.
