ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Track & Field will send a group of student-athletes to a pair of last chance meets this weekend, beginning with the Concordia Twilight Meet on Friday in Seward, Nebraska, before Pau Valderrama competes Saturday at the Lee University Last Chance Meet in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Most of the Griffons competing this weekend will travel to Concordia University Nebraska for one final opportunity to improve marks and gain additional competition experience before the season comes to a close.
In the throws, Dawson Miller will compete in the javelin, shot put, and hammer throw, while Tate Youtsey, Jackson Sigrist, and Maddi McMillian will all compete in the javelin.
On the track, Kayden Crigger will race in the 1500m, Usman Tufa will compete in the steeplechase, and Jade Wickwire will run the 5000m.
For the Griffon throwers, the meet provides another valuable opportunity for competition reps after limited chances throughout the season, especially in the javelin where athletes only compete a handful of times each year.
Friday's meet will also serve as one final collegiate competition for seniors Crigger and Tufa, who will both look to chase personal bests in their respective events before closing out their careers.
Valderrama will compete separately Saturday at the Lee University Last Chance Meet, as the junior looks to position himself for a potential NCAA Division II National Championship qualifying spot. The meet marks his final opportunity to secure a place inside the national top-20 rankings.
