Softball hosts Central Missouri, Nebraska-Kearney in weekend series

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Softball (21-8, 2-4 MIAA) returns home this weekend for a four-game MIAA homestand at the Spring Sports Complex, hosting Central Missouri on Friday before welcoming Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.

MoWest opens the weekend with a doubleheader against Central Missouri (20-8, 4-2 MIAA) on Friday, March 27, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. Game two will follow at 4 p.m. The Griffons then continue conference play on Saturday, March 28, taking on Nebraska-Kearney (12-21, 1-3 MIAA) in another doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m., with game two scheduled for 2 p.m.

Ashlyn Finarty has been a key contributor for the Griffons this season, appearing in 29 games with 80 at-bats. She is hitting .287 with 23 hits, 15 runs scored, and 24 RBI. Finarty leads the team with 10 home runs while adding one double and one triple, posting a strong power presence in the middle of the lineup.

The Griffons had their first MIAA road contests of the season, splitting a doubleheader at Northeastern State before dropping both games of a Saturday twin bill at Rogers State.

MoWest opened the weekend on Friday, March 20, with a 6-3 win in game one against Northeastern State, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the victory. The Griffons were unable to complete the sweep in game two, falling 9-6 in a back-and-forth contest.

On Saturday, March 21, MoWest traveled to Rogers State and came up short in both ends of the doubleheader. The Griffons dropped game one 10-6 and were limited to just two hits in a 2-0 loss in the finale.

What's Next
Griffon Softball hits the road for a four-game MIAA weekend, opening with a Friday doubleheader at Newman on April 3 in Wichita, Kansas at 2 and 4 p.m. MoWest then travels to Edmond, Oklahoma for a Saturday doubleheader against Central Oklahoma on April 4, with first pitch set for 1 and 3 p.m.
