ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon Softball (23-8, 4-4 MIAA) swept Central Missouri 5-4 and 16-8 (6) on Friday afternoon at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex in St. Joseph.
The Griffs notched their first MIAA doubleheader sweep of the 2026 season and avenge a Jennie sweep over MoWest in Warrensburg a season ago.
Game 1: MWSU 5 UCM 4
The Griffs scored the game's first run, but UCM (20-10, 4-4 MIAA) answered with three unearned runs in the top of the second to lead 3-1.
The Jennies added a run in the sixth and led 4-2, but MoWest blasted two home runs in the home half of the sixth - a solo bomb from Rachel Cain and then a two-run, go ahead shot to right field by Brooklynn Clark to put the Griffs up 5-4.
Harley Pruetting (SV 2) relieved starting pitcher Torie Sandoval in the seventh and delivered a three-out save to seal the deal.
Sandoval (6-3) went six innings and struck out three, while walking just one. All four of UCM's runs scored were unearned.
Game 2: MWSU 16 UCM 8 (6 inn.)
MoWest set the tone with a six-run frame in the first inning, highlighted by triples from Ashlyn Finarty and Myah Dwyer. Dwyer's triple scored three total runs.
UCM made its push and came back to lead 8-7 in the middle of the fifth, but the Griffs tallied eight runs In the bottom of the fifth to reclaim a 15-8 advantage. Brooklynn Clark delivered the final blow with an RBI double in the sixth to end the game via run rule. Clark went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Sophie Johnson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Finarty went 2-of-3 with a run and a RBI. Harley Pruetting (9-3) tossed the last 3.1 innings in relief, striking out six and walking four. She was charged with just two earned runs.
