CLAREMORE, Okla. – Griffon Softball (21-8, 2-4 MIAA) was swept in a Saturday doubleheader at Rogers State (20-10, 4-4 MIAA), falling 10-6 in game one and 2-0 in game two at the RCB Bank Sports Complex.
Game 1: MWSU 6 RSU 10
MoWest jumped out early in the first inning behind a three-run home run from
Ashlyn Finarty, scoring
Sydney Young and
Kenedee Giddens to take a 3-0 lead. Rogers State answered back in the bottom half, capitalizing on miscues and situational hitting to even the game at 3-3 by the end of the first.
The Griffons regained the lead in the second as
Sarah Swallow launched a solo home run to left center, making it 4-3. Swallow struck again in the fourth with another solo shot to push the advantage to 5-3.
Rogers State responded in the fourth, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch to tie the game at 5-5. The Hillcats then took control in the fifth inning, stringing together three RBI hits to build an 8-5 lead.
MoWest cut into the deficit in the sixth, as
Ayva McComas drew an RBI walk to make it 8-6. However, Rogers State answered immediately with two more runs in the bottom half to extend the lead to 10-6 and secure the win.
Game 2: MWSU 0 RSU 2
Both teams traded scoreless innings early as the Griffons and Hillcats settled into a pitcher's duel. MWSU managed just two hits and was unable to break through offensively.
Rogers State found the difference in the fourth inning with a two-run home run down the right field line, giving the Hillcats a 2-0 advantage they would not relinquish.
Despite the loss, the Griffon pitching staff turned in a solid performance in the circle.
Torie Sandoval went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two without issuing a walk.
Aubrey Dare provided a strong inning of relief, tossing a scoreless frame with no hits allowed and one walk.
MoWest was unable to generate a late rally, as Rogers State kept the Griffons off the board the rest of the way to secure the shutout.

Griffon Softball returns home on Friday, March 27 to host Central Missouri in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., with game two scheduled for 4 p.m.
