Garr places sixth in shot put, earns All-American at NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Griffon Track & Field was represented on the national stage as Makenzie Garr competed at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Garr earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a top mark of 15.58 meters (51-1 ½). The junior opened with a foul before recording her best throw on her second attempt. She followed with a mark of 15.17 meters (49-9 ¼) on her third throw and later added distances of 15.41 meters (50-6 ¾) and 15.14 meters (49-8 ¼) in the final round.

Interim Head Coach Sean Gosewisch reflected on Garr's performance at the Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.

"We're proud of Makenzie's sixth-place finish, earning First Team All-American honors," Gosewisch said. "She has brought great honor to herself, our team, and the university through her hard work and perseverance. It was great to see her competing among the nation's best, and it was a stellar way to close the indoor season."
