MARYVILLE, Mo. – Griffon Track and Field competed at the Bearcat Invite on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6–7, hosted by Northwest Missouri State at Hughes Fieldhouse.
Makenzie Garr delivered an impressive day in the field, earning a top-three finish in both events she contested. Garr placed first in the women's shot put with a mark of 14.95m (49-00.75). She followed that effort with a third-place finish in the women's weight throw, recording a toss of 17.54m (57-06.50) to cap off a dominant performance.
On the women's side, Yesenia Carrillo posted a strong showing in the 600 yards, finishing seventh overall with a time of 1:32.28. In the mile, Abby Kinney led the way with a 13th-place finish in 5:16.15, while Meagan Smith followed in 25th at 5:29.47. Kinney added another impressive effort in the 3,000 meters, placing fourth overall after clocking 10:38.92.
The Griffon men delivered depth in the distance events, led by Joshua Zachary, who placed 13th in the mile at 4:20.28 before returning to finish 12th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:37.97. Wimach Gilo added a 26th-place finish in the mile (4:26.88) and placed 19th in the 3,000 meters at 8:42.95, while Kayden Crigger rounded out the event with a 24th-place finish in 8:53.31.
In the field events, Dawson Miller delivered a standout performance in the men's weight throw, placing sixth overall with a mark of 17.86 meters
Interim head coach Sean Gosewisch shared his thoughts following the weekend, "I thought this was the best team effort we have had since the first meet in December. Makenzie headlined things for us again with her win in shot and 3rd place in weight, but the whole team competed hard and make good progress. Things are starting to click after an unpredictable January, and I expect us to keep making moves in preparation for conference."
