PITTSBURG, Kan. – Griffon Track & Field competed this weekend in the Jungle at the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13–14, inside the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Makenzie Garr led the way for the Griffon women, placing second in the shot put with a mark of 15.36 meters. Garr also added a sixth-place finish in the weight throw, recording a toss of 17.01 meters to score in both throwing events.
Gilo Wimachmorr paced MWSU in the men's 3,000-meter run with a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 8:32.48. Zachary Joshua followed closely behind in the men's 3,000-meter run, taking 11th in 8:37.82 to give the Griffons two top-15 finishers.
Logan Soedt recorded a time of 9:02.96 in the men's 3,000-meter run to place 41st, while Henry Trumpp finished 42nd in the event with a mark of 9:05.32 to round out the Griffon competitors.
On the men's side, Dawson Miller posted an 11th-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 18.12 meters. Miller also competed in the shot put, finishing 26th with a throw of 13.78 meters.
Kelsi Fair added depth in the women's shot put, placing 22nd overall with a mark of 11.96 meters.
In the jumps, Abbey Henry represented the Griffons in both horizontal events. She placed 26th in the long jump with a leap of 5.24 meters and followed with a 15th-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.92 meters.
In the Women's 800 Meter Run, Meagan Smith led the way with a 32nd-place finish in 2:21.60. MJ Hageman placed 65th with a time of 2:31.03, while Bailey Cutler crossed the line in 2:34.59 to finish 71st overall.
In the Women's 3000 Meter Run, Abby Kinney recorded a 26th-place finish, clocking a time of 10:26.74.
In the men's 5000-meter run, Kayden Crigger turned in a strong performance with a ninth-place finish, crossing the line in 15:06.08 to lead the way. Mason Orscheln followed with a 27th-place effort in 15:34.50. Mason McCain added a 38th-place finish in 16:00.27, while Ryan Ringgenberg rounded out the group in 39th with a time of 16:02.02.
Interim head coach Sean Gosewisch shared his thoughts following the weekend," I think we took advantage of a good meet and threw down several personal bests or season bests. It was important to solidify or improve our spots in the conference meet, and many of the athletes that competed did just that."
