ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – MoWest Athletics continues to celebrate 50 years of women's sports in 2025-26 with more signature events planned for February 4 and 7.
February 4, which is National Women and Girls in Sports Day, will feature 'The Pioneers of MWSU Women's Athletics" panel at Potter Hall on the MoWest campus from 5-6 p.m. Former Griffon coaches and administrators Mary "Pee Wee" Nichols and Rhesa Sumrell will be present, along with dozens of former and current female Griffon athletes, coaches and administrators.
The hour-long panel, to be moderated by
Ryan Menley, will feature in-depth stories about the early days of women's sports at MoWest and the evolution of the Griffon women's programs into what they are today.
There will also be a public Q-and-A session with audience members at the conclusion of the panel.
On February 7, Griffon Women's Basketball is set to host MIAA rival Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. at the MWSU Fieldhouse, with the men's game to follow at 3:30 p.m.
Not only will there be recognition of Griffon female athletes throughout the games, but also be an after-hours social in the Rogers Pharmacy Hall of Fame Room at Spratt Stadium following the games at 6 p.m. Light food and refreshments for the event.
