ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western State University's Director of Athletics
Andy Carter was recently appointed to the St. Joseph Sports Commission's Board of Directors.
"I am honored to serve our community and the advancement of the Commission with this talented and engaged board," Carter said. "In my professional role at MoWest, we have partnered with the Commission on many successful hosting opportunities and I am excited about future opportunities."
Carter has served as MoWest's athletic director since May 2022.
Founded in 1997, the St. Joseph Sports Commission is a support group of the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau, focused on sports tourism with a mission to "enhance the economic growth and vitality of the area through the creation of sports and recreation events in St. Joseph."
The Sports Commission has hosted many recent events that have involved MoWest Athletics, including the MIAA Volleyball tournament since 2022. The Commission has also hosted the D2CCA Tip-off Classic, the DII Women's Basketball Central Region Showcase, the DII Men's Golf Regional Championship and the MSHSAA State Football Championships played at MoWest's Spratt Stadium.
The Sports Commission also created the St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2021 with many Griffon legends already inducted, including Cheri Kempf, Tom Smith, Charlie Burri, Gary Filbert, Michael Hill, Brad Nurski, Brice Garnett, Doug Minnis, Mike Habermehl and Bob Orf.
