MWSU Approves Alcohol Sales for Griffon Basketball Games

policy takes effect January 10th

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western State University will introduce alcohol sales at all Griffon basketball games for 2026. The new policy goes into effect on January 10th.

The university board of governors approved the option for alcohol sales in late 2025, with a 2026 targeted start date and a plan that emphasizes responsibility and safety.

MoWest Athletics will partner with its current dining service provider, Aramark, to sell beer and wine inside the MWSU Fieldhouse at Looney Complex begninning Saturday, January 10. MoWest will continue to evaluate the program, potentially including other venues and sports for implementation in the future.

"Alcohol sales at sports venues have become a common practice throughout the MIAA and collegiate sports in general," said MWSU director of athletics Andy Carter.

"We have worked with university leadership to develop a detailed, responsible and safe plan that we believe will enhance the overall game day experience for our fans."

Beer and wine will be sold at a designated area on the east end of the MWSU Fieldhouse. It will be sold during both Griffon men's and women's basketball games, starting at tip-off of the women's game and ending with 10 minutes remaining in the men's game. Concession staff will be trained and required to follow all local and state regulations.

Beer and wine may be consumed in both home and visitor seating areas in the Fieldhouse. To purchase, fans must be 21 or older and present a valid government ID. Alcohol must be served in plastic containers.
