ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon indoor track and field resumes its season this Saturday with a trip to Maryville to compete in the Coach Richard Alsup Open at the Hughes Fieldhouse on the Northwest Missouri State campus.
Running events start at 10 a.m. with field events starting at 11 a.m. The meet will be available to watch on the MIAA Network with a subscription.
MoWest will compete against with MIAA members Central Missouri, Northwest and Rogers State. Division II member Quincy University will also be there.
Many NAIA member schools, including Baker, Benedictine, Bethel, Central Methodist, Graceland, Missouri Baptist, MidAmerica Nazarene, St. Mary and William Woods will compete. Dodge City CC, Neosho County CC, Southwestern CC and State Fair CC are also in the field.
MoWest started its indoor season back on Dec. 6, 2025 at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, which was also held at Hughes Fieldhouse.
In the men's race,
Wimach Gilo stormed to a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters, winning in 14:31.01 and shattering the previous school record of 14:44.27.
In the women's events,
Makenzie Garr delivered a standout day by winning both of her competitions. She took the women's weight throw with a mark of 17.07 meters, then followed with a 15.09-meter effort in the shot put to set a meet record.
