Smith breaks 400 record as Griffs compete in three last chance meets

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Track & Field wrapped up a weekend full of last chance meets, competing at the Concordia Twilight on Friday and the Loper Twilight and Lee University Last Chance Meet on Saturday.

CONCORDIA TWILIGHT - FRIDAY - SEWARD, NEB.
Aneesa Abdul-Hameed started things off by taking first place in the women's 400-meter run, clocking in at 56.45 seconds. MJ Smith followed suit with a third-place finish in the men's 400-meter run thanks to a time of 47.94. Allyssa Mahone took second in the women's discus with a throw of 48.07 meters, etching a new program record.

Lucas Trotter capped things off for Missouri Western with a third-place showing in the men's shot put, heaving a distance of 17.40 meters.

LOPER TWILIGHT - SATURDAY - KEARNEY, NEB.
After an impressive showing on Friday, Smith went back to work in the 400-meter run on Saturday, breaking his own school record and taking first place in the process thanks to a time of 47.36. Samuel Hydro followed that up with a second-place finish in the men's 800-meter run, coming in with a time of 1:52.86. Moments later, Riley Gorham won the 1,500-meter run for a second week in a row, tallying a first-place time of 3:49.13. 

Mahone was back in action in the discus once again, taking fifth thanks to a throw of 44.95. With a throw of 39.83, Camryn Huggans earned third place in the women's javelin throw. Trotter showed out in the men's shot put again, taking second with a mark of 16.84 meters.

Huggans ended MWSU's time in Kearney, Nebraska, with a fourth-place finish in the women's shot put, chucking a distance of 13.31.

LEE UNIVERSITY LAST CHANCE - SATURDAY - CLEVELAND, TENN.
Madison Nash competed late at night on Saturday in the women's 10,000-meter run, holding third place for most of the race. However, she was not able to finish after 9,200 meters.
