EMPORIA, Ks. — With two conference champions and two runner-ups, Griffon Track & Field logged one of its best finishes in the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as the women finished sixth with a score of 64 while the men took 10th with score of final tally of 30.
SUNDAY RESULTS
Sunday's slate started with the Griffons' 4x100 team of
Drake Stelljes,
Alex Thompson,
Conner Thom and
MJ Smith taking sixth. The squad finished in 42.14 seconds to rewrite a new Griffon record. The women's team finished second in the same event, as
Aneesa Abdul-Hameed,
Hanna Williams,
Aniya Kollore and
Savannah Simmons finished with a simmering time of 46.32.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Abdul-Hameed, Williams, Simmons and
Madison Roumph took third place with a program record time of 3:46.06. This finish also officially secured sixth place for the Griffons' women's team overall with a squad score of 64 — the best finish in program history. On the men's side, the group of Stelljes, Smith,
Derek Dixon and
Davon Beckles came in with a program record of 3:15.78 to take eighth.
MJ Smith ran back into action to take sixth in the men's 400-meter dash, finishing in 47/98 seconds. Williams went back to work and collected some more hardware for herself in the women's 400-meter dash. The senior snagged first place in 54.08 seconds to claim her second MIAA championship in the 400 and yet another school record.
Williams also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter with a school record time of 24.33.
After winning the MIAA Championship in the women's 10,000-meter run on Saturday as a freshman,
Madison Nash notched a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:32.74.
Simmons and Kollore took fifth and seventh in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.93 and 12.25 seconds respectively. Moving on to te men's 800-meter finals,
Riley Gorham clocked in at 1:56.16 for a sixth-place finish.
Bailey Gilbert grabbed third place in the women's triple jump, clearing a distance of 12.13 meters. Gilbert's jump also hit a provisional-qualifying mark. Roumph came in seventh with a jump of 11.35 meters.
Throw strong duo of
Jordan Garr and
Dallas Thompson recorded second place and fifth place in the men's shot put. Garr's throw landed at 17.63 meters while Thompson's hit 16.31 meters. In the women's shot put finals,
Samantha Cerra found herself in seventh place with a distance of 12.74 meters.
FRIDAY RESULTS
Missouri Western's has two Griffs competing in the women's heptathlon with
Lynzi Miller in seventh place while
Erin Miller sits in 11th.
Lynzi Miller and
Erin Miller took eighth and ninth in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles respectively, finishing with times of 15.34 and 15.63. Moving on to the high jump,
Erin Miller took eighth with a leap of 1.52 meters.
Lynzi Miller shined in the shot put with a strong toss of 10.81 meters.
Lynzi Miller showed off her speed placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.72.
SATURDAY RESULTS
Freshman
Madison Nash blazed through her 10,000-meter run, winning the MIAA title with a new facility and MWSU record of 35:22.29 minutes.
Lynzi Miller ended her run in the heptathlon with an eighth place finish. Her highest placement was a 10.81-meter throw in the shot put.
MJ Smith took eighth in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 48.05.
Hanna Williams took second in the same event on the women's side, clocking in at 54.72.
Riley Gorham took seventh in the men's 800-meter preliminary. He finished in 1:52.46 minutes.
Alex Thompson broke the school record for the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.02 seconds. He took 12th place. Meanwhile, indoor All-American
Jordan Garr took sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 57.16 meters.
On the women's side of the same event,
Samantha Cerra took sixth. She threw a distance of 48.73.
Nate Daugherty-Parrish took fourth in the discus throw, heaving a mark of 53.54 meters — the 14th-best toss in the nation. With this throw, he shatters the previous program record.
