ST. JOSEPH - Griffon Basketball will invade Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium on Friday, March 6 for the MIAA Championships. Missouri Western's basketball teams finished the regular season with more combined MIAA wins (26) than any other MIAA member with the women's team seeded No. 6 and the men's team seeded No. 4 in the postseason tournament.
The Griffon women will kick off what equates to a neutral site doubleheader for the teams at 2:15 p.m. against No. 3-seeded Nebraska-Kearney. After a between session break, the Griffon men will take on No. 5-seeded Washburn at 6 p.m. It's the first time both programs have appeared in Kansas City for the MIAA Championships since the 2010-11 seasons.
The women's team finished the season 21-7 overall with a 13-6 record in MIAA play. After being picked 8th/11th in the

Candi Whitaker led the Griffons to a three-way tie for fourth in the standings with Pittsburg State and Fort Hays State, but ended up as the No. 6 seed due to the three-way tiebreaker that ranks winning percentage against the teams tied.
Sundance Wicks' second year leading the men's team brought the most successful season for the program in 10 years. The Griffons finished fourth after being picked 9th/12th in the MIAA Preseason Polls. The team's 13 conference wins matched the total of the previous three seasons and were the most for the program in 18 years.
Griffon fans are encouraged to purchase tickets at the front desk of the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex or by calling 816-271-4481 during regular campus hours. Once that allotment is gone, fans can also purchase tickets through Ticketmaster or at the gate.
