Women's Basketball to Play in Three Conference Matchups

Griffons to host NSU, travel to Washburn and ESU

Monday, Jan. 6, 5:30 p.m. vs. Northeastern State
Thursday, Jan. 9, 5:30 p.m. at Washburn
Saturday, Jan. 11, 1:30 p.m. at Emporia State
 
ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western Women's Basketball returns this week with a busy schedule. The Griffons (10-2, 2-1 MIAA) will host Northeastern State (4-7, 2-2 MIAA) on Monday and then will turn around Thursday and travel to Topeka to take on Washburn (7-5, 1-2 MIAA). The Griffons will then conclude their three-game week with a Saturday afternoon matchup against Emporia State (10-2, 3-0 MIAA).
 
The Griffons look to continue their five-game win streak into this week against these three programs. Missouri Western also will look to continue their six-game win streak against the Riverhawks on Monday after a 15-point victory over Rogers State last Saturday.
 
PREVIEWING THE GRIFFONS
 
  • Missouri Western ranks third in the MIAA in average field goal percentage averaging 45% per contest.
  • The Griffons also rank in the top-five of the conference in average steals (10.83) and assists (15.50) per game.
  • Corbyn Cunningham leads the MIAA in field goal percentage averaging 58% from the field per contest.
  • Chris Wilson and Corbyn Cunningham rank in the top-10 of the league in scoring. Wilson averages 15.6 points per game, while Cunningham averages 15.5 points per contest for the Griffons.
  • Wilson and Cunningham also rank in the top-10 of MIAA in rebounding. Chris averages 9 boards per game, while Corbyn averages 7.3.
  • Katrina Roenfeldt ranks in the top-10 of the league in three-point field goals made per game averaging 2.3.
  • Roenfeldt also ranks third in the MIAA in steals per game averaging three per contest.
  • KT also ranks seventh in the conference in assists averaging 3.4 per game for the Griffons.
 
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN STATE
 
  • The Riverhawks rank sixth in the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage averaging 34% from beyond the arc as a team.
  • NSU also ranks in the top-10 of the conference in overall field goal percentage averaging 40% per contest.
  • Northeastern State took on Rogers State at home before holiday break. That matchup ended in an 81-60 victory over the Hillcats.
  • Cenia Hayes ranks sixth in the league in scoring averaging 16 points per game for the Riverhawks.
  • Hayes also leads the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage averaging 45% from beyond the arc.
  • Shae Sanchez also ranks in the top-15 of the conference in scoring.
 
SCOUTING WASHBURN
 
  • The Ichabods rank in the top-five of the MIAA in many statistical categories including field goal percentage (44%), three-point field goal percentage (35%) and assists (16.25).
  • Washburn also ranks in the top-10 of the conference in scoring, averaging 74.6 points per game.
  • Shelbe Piggie places in the top-five of the league in field goal percentage averaging 50% per contest.
  • Reagan Phelan leads the MIAA in assists averaging 5.5 per contest for the Ichabods.
  • Phelan also averages 2.3 made three-point field goals per game, which ranks sixth in the league.
  • Hunter Bentley ranks in the top-10 of the conference in blocked shots per game averaging about a rejection per game.
 
SCOUTING EMPORIA STATE
 
  • The Hornets lead the MIAA in steals averaging 15.83 takeaways per game.
  • ESU also shoots 36% from beyond the arc which places third best in the conference.
  • Emporia also ranks in the top-five of the league in scoring, averaging 76.7 points per contest.
  • Tre'Zure Jobe ranks second in the MIAA in scoring averaging 16.7 points per game for the Hornets.
  • Jessica Wayne also leads the conference in average steals per game with 5.4.
