ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –
After an impressive 4-0 weekend to open the 2019 season, Griffon Volleyball will look to continue its success as the team travels to the Drury Invitational in Springfield this weekend.

By the end of the Invitational on Saturday, the Griffons will play four teams: Drury, Truman State, Colorado Mesa and Northern State at O'Reilly Family Event Center. The tournament will serve as another opportunity to compete against non-conference talent to prepare for MIAA play.

After the Gorilla Classic, Missouri Western leads the MIAA in a couple of statistical categories. The Griffons lead the league in service aces, while they are third in the league in kills and hitting percentage.

Several Griffons lead the league in individual stat categories as well. Tiana Butler leads the MIAA in digs per set, while Jessica Sachen leads in service aces per set. Multiple Griffons, including Ali Tauchen, Lindsey Hartline, Lauren Murphy and Emiley Cross are in the top-five for multiple categories.

On Friday, the Griffons will compete against the host team Drury University and GLVC opponent Truman State. Drury is currently 1-3 coming into their home Invitational after competing in the Capital Plaza Invitational over the weekend. The Panthers are receiving votes in the AVCA poll after starting the season ranked No. 18. Truman State is 2-2 coming into this weekend after competing in the NOVA Southeastern Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last week.

On Saturday, Colorado Mesa and Northern State will be on deck for the Griffons. Colorado Mesa is 3-1 and also receiving votes in the AVCA poll while Northern State is a perfect 4-0 and ranked No. 7 in the nation headed into the weekend.
