Taylor Russell and Jessica Fey headline Griffon Volleyball’s AVCA Central Region awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the 2025 AVCA Division II Women's Regional Awards on December 3, unveiling this year's All-Region teams, honorable mentions, and major award winners across all eight Division II regions. Each region features 14 All-Region selections and six honorable mention recipients, along with a Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

In total, 160 student-athletes from 85 institutions were recognized for their standout performances during the 2025 campaign.

Griffon Volleyball earned two All-Region honors in the Central Region, highlighted by head coach Jessica Fey, who was named Central Region Coach of the Year and the junior right-side hitter Taylor Russell who was named to the AVCA All-Central Region 1st Team.

Fey has made her fourth season at MoWest a memorable one, leading the Griffons to a 21–7 record as of December 2 and orchestrating a twelve-match win streak from early October through early November. That run included victories over then-No. 4 Central Oklahoma and No. 2 Washburn.

Fey also garnered MIAA Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Griffons to a share of the MIAA Regular Season Championship. MoWest went 13–3 in league play and earned the No. 2 overall seed in the MIAA postseason tournament. The regular season title marked the program's first conference championship share since 2017. This season also saw Fey record her 100th career coaching victory, adding another milestone to an already historic year.

When the Griffons climbed to No. 16 in the Nov. 10 AVCA Division II Coaches Poll, it marked the highest ranking ever achieved in program history, further highlighting the rise of the program under Fey's leadership.

Taylor Russell put together a standout junior campaign on the right side, earning a spot on the AVCA All-Central Region First Team after delivering one of the most consistent offensive seasons in the region. Russell finished the year with 301 kills across 104 sets, averaging 2.89 kills per set while hitting .274 on 751 total attacks. She added 55 digs and was a major presence at the net defensively, totaling 64.0 blocks to average 0.62 blocks per set.

Russell closed the regular season with 336.5 total points, good for 3.24 points per set, reinforcing her role as one of MoWest's most reliable point-producers throughout the season.
