Tommy Rezac Headshot 2024

Tommy Rezac

Tommy Rezac, the Radio Voice of Missouri Western Athletics, joined the department full-time in July 2024 in the newly-established Director of Broadcasting position. He's in his fifth season as 'Voice of the Griffons.'

Rezac plays a key role in enhancing all Griffon sporting events broadcast on The MIAA Network, along with the launch of the department's online radio streaming service on gogriffons.com.

Missouri Western produces around 100 broadcasts on The MIAA Network and GLVC Network each year, and Rezac provides play-by-play commentary for nearly all home sporting events (football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse). He also provides live radio-play-by-play for football and men's and women's basketball at home and on the road.

Rezac also produces feature content for gogriffons.com, and serves as the primary host for the weekly "Griffon Sports Insider" podcast, which is broadcast live on Mondays at noon during the school year at Hi-Ho Bar and Grill in St. Joseph.

Rezac came to Missouri Western after 3.5 years as sports director of KFEQ Radio and St. Joseph Post at Eagle Communications. He spent three seasons as Voice of the Griffons on KFEQ and the Griffon Sports Network.

Rezac provided extensive coverage of Missouri Western athletics at KFEQ, as well as area high school sports, Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp and more. Rezac anchored the morning sports, as well as afternoon news and sports, on KFEQ each day. He also published hundreds of articles and photos on StJosephPost.com.

Rezac's career started in 2017 as Sports Director at 1400 KLIN (NRG Media) in Lincoln, Nebraska. He covered Nebraska Athletics extensively, doing interviews, articles, sportscasts and a couple of Husker talk shows. With a desire to get back into play-by-play full time, Rezac took a job as Sports/News Director for KUTT 99.5 FM (News Channel Nebraska) in Fairbury, Nebraska in 2018.

While there, Rezac was the radio voice of Doane University (NAIA) football from 2018-19. He called numerous high school games per week on radio and TV, while also covering local news and sports for both radio and TV.

In early 2020, Rezac became the radio voice of NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Crookston at KROX Radio. Due to changes in the role brought on by COVID-19, Rezac made the move to St. Joseph in December 2020. He became “Voice of the Griffons” in September 2021.

Rezac has won multiple awards for his work in sports broadcasting and journalism, including first place in sports reporting from the Missouri Broadcasters Association (2021, ‘23, ‘24). He took first place in feature reporting and best use of digital media from the MBA in 2024, and received awards of merit for play-by-play in 2023 and ‘24.

Rezac won first place for play-by-play and sports reporting from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association (2016, ‘17, ‘18, ‘19), National Broadcasting Society (2016), Society of Professional Journalists (2016) and the Midwest Broadcast Journalists' Association (2016, ‘17, ‘18).

Rezac is a native of Valparaiso, Nebraska. He lives in St. Joseph with his wife, Allie, and dogs Bruno and Milo.
