ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 8 Griffon Volleyball opens MIAA play this weekend with a pair of matches inside the Looney Complex, hosting No. 22 Central Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 18, before facing Newman on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Friday's conference opener against No. 22 Central Oklahoma is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's match against Newman will begin at 2 p.m.
Griffons Move to Program-Best No. 8
MoWest enters conference play ranked No. 8 in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Poll. The Griffons moved up two spots from No. 10, marking a new program-best national ranking. MoWest is 10-1 through its first 11 matches of the season.
The Griffons are one of six MIAA programs ranked in the latest national poll, joining No. 7 Nebraska Kearney, No. 13 Washburn, No. 18 Emporia State, No. 22 Central Oklahoma and No. 25 Central Missouri.
Last Time Out
MoWest enters the weekend following a perfect showing at the Holiday Inn Express Griffon Volleyball Invitational. The Griffons swept Arkansas Tech, Illinois Springfield and McKendree to finish the weekend 3-0 without dropping a set.
The Griffons opened the tournament with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 victory over Arkansas Tech before defeating Illinois Springfield 25-14, 25-16, 25-17. MoWest finished the weekend with a 25-10, 25-15, 25-20 victory over McKendree.
Tanith Roush led the Griffons in the finale with 13 kills while hitting .524. Mackenzie Peters added nine total blocks, while Anna Weberg recorded a match-high 19 digs. MoWest hit .317 as a team and held McKendree to a .071 hitting percentage.
The 10-1 start matches the Griffons' 1983 team through 11 matches.
MIAA Play Begins
The Griffons will get an early ranked matchup to begin conference action against No. 22 Central Oklahoma before closing the opening MIAA weekend against Newman on Saturday afternoon.
