JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Griffon Men's Golf came home 5th out of 11 teams in the MIAA Men's Golf Championships at Jefferson City Country Club Wednesday.
On a warm and breezy day, MoWest was 15 strokes better in the third round compared to the second, shooting a team score of 289 (+1) Wednesday for a three-round total of 887 (+23).
No. 6 Central Oklahoma won the event with a score 853 (-11).
Four Griffons placed inside the top 25, led by Aiden Asby who shot an even par 72 Wednesday and tied for 12th overall with a three-round score of 221 (+5). He had three birdies and 13 pars in the final round.
Parker Boggins was close behind, tying for 14th with a 222 (+6). He improved by four shots in his third round, shooting a 73 (+1) Wednesday. He birdied on holes 7 and 10 and tallied 13 pars.
Tim Johnston tied for 19th with a total score of 224 (+8). He was six strokes better in his final round with an even par 72 Wednesday. He had three birdies and 12 pars.
Ethan Mustard also made a sizable jump, shooting even par three 72 Wednesday for a three-round total of 225 (+9), tying him for 22nd overall - a career-best finish. Mustard improved by six strokes in the final round.
Bennett Berger came home 35th with a total of 228 (+12). He birdied on hole 12 in the final round.
MoWest now waits to hear its fate for the NCAA Central Region tournament, which will be played at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan May 7-9.
Regional selections are expected to be announced sometime around April 25. The top ten teams in each region qualify for the regional tournament. MoWest sits 9th in the latest Central Region Rankings.
Aiden Asby is also in position to qualify for the regional as an individual.
