Softball splits doubleheader at Northeastern State Friday

Griffons resume play Saturday at Rogers State.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Griffon Softball (21-6, 2-2 MIAA) split a doubleheader at Northeastern State on Friday, taking game one 6-3 before dropping game two 9-6 at Riverhawks Park in Tahlequah.

Game 1: MWSU 6 NSU 3
MoWest scored four runs in the sixth inning to go up 6-3, and the Griffon defense held the Riverhawks off the board in the final inning to secure a win.

Kalee Higdon led the way offensively, going 2-of-3 with five RBIs, including a three-run RBI double in the sixth. She had another two-run double in the fifth.

Harley Pruetting (8-2) pitched the last three innings in relief and got the win, striking out four and walking two while only allowing one earned run.

Game 2: NSU 9 MWSU 6
MoWest scored three runs in the first inning and led 3-1 after the second, but NSU (17-10, 4-2 MIAA) scored five runs in the third to jump ahead. MoWest tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the fourth, but the Riverhawks took the lead for good with a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

MoWest was outhit in the second game 11-4. Ashlyn Finarty went yard with a solo bomb in the fourth inning.

Aubrey Dare (3-1) took the loss in relief, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing just one earned run. She struck out three and walked one.

What's Next
MoWest stays in Oklahoma to battle Rogers State (18-10, 2-4 MIAA) on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. at the RCB Bank Sports Complex in Claremore.
