Makenzie Garr returns to NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in shot put

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Track & Field will be represented on the national stage as Makenzie Garr competes at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 13–14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The women's shot put final is scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 4:15 p.m. (CST).

Garr qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the women's shot put and enters the national meet seeded seventh with a mark of 15.71 meters. The junior will compete against the top throwers in Division II.

This appearance marks Garr's third consecutive season competing at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. She has also qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in each of the past two seasons.

Garr recorded four first-place finishes in the shot put during the 2026 indoor season. She opened the season by winning the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic on Dec. 6 with a throw of 15.09m (49' 6.25"). Garr followed with another first-place performance at the Washburn Open on Jan. 30–31, posting a mark of 14.95m (49' 0.75"). She matched that distance again to win the Bearcat Invite on Feb. 6–7 and later captured first at the Northwest Tune Up on Feb. 19 with a throw of 14.97m (49' 1.5").

Garr also recorded three runner-up finishes during the indoor season. She placed second at the Coach Alsup Invite on Jan. 17 with a throw of 15.22m (49' 11.25"), followed by another second-place finish at the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic on Feb. 13–14 with a mark of 15.36m (50' 4.75"). Garr then delivered her season-best throw of 15.71m (51' 6.5") to finish second at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 27–Mar. 1.
