MARYVILLE, Mo. – Griffon Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field took part in the Coach Richard Alsup Open on Saturday, Jan. 17, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.
In the field events,
Makenzie Garr delivered one of the top performances of the day in the women's shot put, earning a second-place finish with a throw of 15.22 meters. Teammate
Kelsi Fair also contributed in the event, placing eighth with a mark of 12.14 meters.
Abbey Henry competed in the women's triple jump and recorded a best leap of 10.92 meters, finishing ninth overall.
The men's weight throw saw
Dawson Miller place fourth after launching a throw of 17.23 meters.
Garr added another strong result in the women's weight throw, securing third place with a mark of 15.90 meters to cap off a productive day in the throws.
In the women's middle-distance events,
Meagan Smith earned a third-place finish in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:13.12.
The women's 3000 meters featured a pair of Griffon competitors, led by
Abby Kinney, who finished fourth overall with a time of 10:36.26.
Jade Wickwire added a ninth-place finish, clocking 11:09.68 in the event.
In the men's 3000 meters, the Griffons placed three runners inside the top ten.
Joshua Zachary led the group with a fourth-place finish, posting a time of 8:39.73. Close behind,
Wimach Gilo followed in fifth at 8:40.69, while
Kayden Crigger with a tenth-place showing in 8:49.95.
On the track, the women's 4x400 meter relay team had an eighth-place finish overall. The quartet of
Yesenia Carrillo,
Maizie Hageman,
Brianna DeBord, and
Meagan Smith posted a time of 4:19.73 while competing in Heat 2.
Interim head coach
Sean Gosewisch shared his thoughts following the meet, saying, "The first meet back after the break is very telling. Those who put in the work performed well, while others struggled. Unfortunately, we had more struggle than success, but I'm happy for the athletes who excelled individually. We'll regroup, get back to work, and continue improving as the season gets fully underway."
