KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its final academic honors for the 2024-25 school year Monday, honoring the conference's newcomers for their efforts this past year.

These honors include the MIAA Academic Excellence award, the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award and the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for all freshman and first-year transfers who competed in an NCAA Division II season in 2024-25.

A total of 78 Griffon newcomers were honored for their achievements in the classroom and competition this past year.

To be considered for the MIAA Newcomer Academic Awards, true freshmen and first-year transfers must have just completed two semesters, excluding summer terms, at their current MIAA institution in the 2024-25 academic year.

The MIAA's Academic Excellence Award was achieved by 170 athletes, including 10 Griffons. A recipient must have a GPA of 4.00 with at least two terms of grades reported at their institution, excluding summer terms.

Earning this award from Missouri Western was Jett Grossart and Nate Herken of baseball, Aden Monzen from football, Morgan Byrd from Griffon soccer and softball, soccer players Savannah Feldmann and Kaari Little, women's golfer Lauren Mallow, softball's Rachel Barriga, Elena Rey Garcia of Griffon Tennis and men's golfer Parker Bunting.

Seventy-five MIAA newcomers achieved Scholar-Athlete status in 2024-25, including four Griffons. To qualify, an athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.50 with two terms of grades reported, excluding summer terms. Outside the classroom, the newcomer must have also received All-MIAA honors to complete the Scholar-Athlete recognition.

The four Griffons to earn the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award in 2024-25 are soccer's Aidyn Woodall, Marie Sepp of women's basketball, baseball's Logan Winkelman and Elena Rey Garcia of Griffon Tennis.

Nearly 1200 MIAA athletes were named to the 2024-25 MIAA Academic Honor Roll, including 78 Griffon athletes. To be recognized, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.00 with at least two terms completed, excluding summer terms.

Only 24 MIAA newcomers received all three of these academic honors - one of those being Elena Rey Garcia of Griffon Tennis, who boasts a 4.00 GPA as a Construction Engineering Technology Major.
