JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Western men's golf is set to compete with 10 other teams in the MIAA Championship this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Jefferson City Country Club.
The event was pushed back by a day due to heavy rainfall in the Jefferson City area on Sunday.
The opening round tees off on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., with Wednesday's round teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
Missouri Western men's golf enters the event currently ranked No. 11 as a team in the Central Region, with
Jeffrey Johnston ranked as the No. 54 player in the nation.
Missouri Western was last in action on Apr. 7-8 at the Firekeeper Open at Firekeeper Golf Course and Resort in Mayetta, Kansas.
The Griffons shot a 300 as a team in the third and final round – five strokes better than round two. Overall, MWSU's team score in the event was 912 (+48). Oklahoma Christian won that tournament with a team score of 859 (-5).
Jeffrey Johnston tied for 25
th overall with a three-round score of 222 (+5). He shot an even par 72 in his final round, birdying three times on the back nine.
Johnston is going for a third straight season to finish first-team all MIAA. He finished eighth at the MIAA Championship last season at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Kansas City.
Aiden Asby tied for 61
st with a total of 229 (+12). Asby improved by eight strokes between his second and third round, shooting a 71 (-1) in the third. He had five birdies in his final 18.
Parker Bunting tied for 69
th with a 230 (+13). Bunting finished 20
th in the MIAA Championship last season as a freshman.
Tim Johnston tied for 86
th with a 234 (+17).
Patrick Johnston was 109
th with a 249 (+32). Tim and Pat will compete in the conference championship for the first time as freshmen.
