CLAREMORE, Okla. – Missouri Western baseball (12-26, 10-17 MIAA) took a 12-2 run rule loss in seven innings at Rogers State in a series opening game Thursday.
After no score through the first four innings, Rogers State jumped on the Griffons in the bottom of the fifth with six runs in the fifth and then six more in the seventh.
Western's only runs came in the top of the seventh with a two-run RBI single by
Blake Anderson.
Kaden Doan had a team-best two hits.
Jackson Bryant doubled and scored in the game.
Lynden Bruegman (2-5) took the loss in 4.1 innings. He got off to a solid start and struck out seven, but he walked five and was tagged with three earned runs. He also hit one batter.
Six Griffon pitchers combined to throw 10 walks and 10 strikeouts. The Hillcats walked in three runs in the seventh inning alone.
Missouri Western concludes the series on Friday with a doubleheader against RSU. The first game starts at noon with the second set to start at 3 p.m.
