ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon lacrosse (7-5, 2-1 GLVC) will conclude its GLVC home schedule this Thursday at 5:00 PM against No. 5 Maryville (12-1, 3-0 GLVC) before facing McKendree (5-8, 0-3 GLVC) on Saturday at noon from Spratt Stadium.

This group has been essential in establishing a standard for a new program in its fifth year. They have contributed to the Griffs' 34 wins, two conference tournament appearances and the best season in the program's history in 2024, where they finished with a record of 10-7.

TOP GRIFFON PERFORMERS
Senior
Sam Pruitt is at the forefront of the team with 57 points, averaging 4.75 points per game, which places her sixth in the GLVC. So far this season, she has netted 36 goals and made 21 assists over 12 games. Additionally, the Ellisville native has collected 26 ground balls, secured 15 draw controls and caused 15 turnovers.
Junior
Caetryn Gilreath is leading the team this season with 40 goals, averaging 3.33 goals per game, which ranks third in the GLVC. In addition to her scoring, she has contributed two assists, bringing her total points to 42. The Lowell, Massachusetts native has also recorded 21 ground balls, caused nine turnovers and secured six draw controls for the Griffs.
Junior
Jessica Brook leads the team with 27 assists this season, averaging 2.25 assists per game, which ranks her second in the GLVC. A native of Savage, Minnesota, she set a school record for single-game assists earlier this season by recording seven against CSU-Pueblo.
Senior
Grace Williams has been a key player in the Western defense, recording an impressive 24 caused turnovers, which ranks third in the GLVC. Sophomore
Brooke Tjernlund has also contributed significantly with 21 turnovers this season. Additionally, sophomore
Jordan Porter has collected 26 ground balls, while freshman
Maddie Chidester leads the team with 39 draw controls.
Goalie
Ava Garaway (6-5) heads into the week with a goals-against average of 10.75. This sophomore has collected 116 saves (3rd-GLVC) and is third on the team with 25 ground balls.
ABOUT THE SAINTS
Maryville concluded the 2024 season with an impressive 18-2 record (7-0 GLVC). They were favored to retain their regular-season title, securing the top spot in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 48 points and six first-place votes.
Last season, they participated in the NCAA Tournament, where they avenged their GLVC Tournament Championship defeat against UIndy in the quarterfinals. However, they dropped a 10-9 heartbreaker to Regis in the semis to conclude a historic run.
The Saints are having an impressive season, boasting a 12-1 record as they head into the week. They've achieved three victories against top-25 teams, with their only loss coming in the season opener against the top-ranked Tampa. In GLVC play, MU remains undefeated at 3-0, with wins against McKendree and Lewis, and they recently secured a nail-biting 18-16 victory over No. 8 UINDY.
Marissa Zeno, a junior midfielder, is the team's leading scorer with a total of 75 points, comprising 49 goals and 26 assists. She also won 31 draws and secured 26 ground balls.
In goal for Maryville, sophomore Gianna Guzek (12-1) enters the week with a goals-against average of 7.76. She has tallied 76 saves and collected 26 ground balls.
ABOUT THE BEARCATS
McKendree finished 2024 with a record of 7-10 (2-5 GLVC) and was picked to finish seventh with 15 points in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Bearcats have a 5-8 record, but have lost their last six games. In their most recent matchup, they suffered a close overtime defeat, ending 18-17 against Lewis last Sunday in Lebanon.
Junior attacker Jayna Barnden is a key player for MCK, leading the team with 73 points, which includes 57 goals and 16 assists. The Canadian native has also contributed 25 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers, and 28 draw controls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Hayden (3-7) has a goals-against average of 14.63 approaching the weekend. Hailing from Woburn, Massachusetts, she has accumulated 150 saves and 27 ground balls.
