Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western tennis (3-5, 0-1 MIAA) won three singles matches and went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league, but Fort Hays State (10-3, 1-1 MIAA) came away with a 4-3 victory over the Griffons at the Noyes Tennis Courts Saturday.
Hays picked up a point by winning two of the three doubles matches, but
Cristina Granero Boj and
Elena Rey Garcia won No. 1 doubles, 6-1.
Granero Boj continued her strong day with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles.
Celia Castaño Malnero won a competitive No. 3 singles match, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.
Rey Garcia also picked up a win in No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1. Hays went onto win No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch a tight victory.
Missouri Western returns to Noyes on Sunday to battle No. 14 Nebraska-Kearney. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
