SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 4 seeded Griffon Tennis dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 1 seed Central Oklahoma in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Complex

Central Oklahoma secured the early advantage by taking the doubles point. UCO earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to go in front 1-0, while the No. 2 doubles match featuring Cristina Granero Boj and Johanna Priedite was left unfinished.

In singles play, the Griffons battled back with two victories. Jevrosima Mitic picked up a strong win at No. 3 singles, taking the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Alejandra Ramirez Botella also earned a point for MoWest with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4.

UCO ultimately clinched the match with wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles. Johanna Priedite fell at the top spot, while Granero Boj's match at No. 2 singles went unfinished. Claudia Pastor also dropped a close match at No. 4 singles.

Griffon Tennis was ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Women's Tennis Central Region Rankings released Wednesday afternoon.

The top six teams in the final rankings will qualify for the NCAA Tournament with the top two seeds serving as hosts and receiving a first round bye. The winner at each three-team host site will advance to the NCAA Championships.
