"We fell short of our goals today," head coach
Cody Ingold said following Saturday's shot put final. "We had plenty of time and preparation to be ready, but we just didn't execute. I'm gutted for Mak, who missed the podium by one spot again."
Â
Garr clinched her place in the finals with her opening throw of 47 feet 10.5 inches. In the finals, the sophomore achieved her second and final recorded throw, measuring 48 feet 11.75 inches, which ranked as the ninth-best throw in the entire flight.
Â
Mahone concluded her second day of competition at nationals with a 12th-place finish. The senior's best of three throws measured at 47 feet three inches.
Â
Sophomore Hannah Richardson from Azusa Pacific secured the national title with a throw of 54 feet. Katherine of CSU-Pueblo and Cydney Banks of William Jewell rounded out the top three.
