MARYVILLE, Mo. - Missouri Western men's and women's track and field logged multiple top five finishes at the Bearcat Invitational, which took place on Friday and Saturday at the Hughes Fieldhouse in Maryville.
The Griffon men's and women's team each recorded top ten finishes in six different events.
"It was the first big two-day meet of the year," coach
Cody Ingold said. "We had people contribute in almost every event group this weekend, which is always good! It's always nice to hit PRs and execute when it matters."
Aneesa Abdul-Hameed placed second in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:27.19.
Haley Sampson placed seventh in the 400 meter dash at 58.58 seconds.
Lillian Cutler came in fifth in the mile, clocking in at 5:08.17.
Abbey Henry placed ninth in triple jump at 35 feet-6.5 inches - a new PR.
Allyssa Mahone placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 45 feet-9 inches. She also placed fifth in weight throw at 59 feet-7.5 inches.
On the men's side,
Samuel Hydro placed 10th in the 800 meter run at 1:53.56. In the mile,
Pau Valderrama placed 3rd and PR'd in the mile at 4:13.96.
Alex Thompson finished fifth in 60-meter hurdles at 8.21 seconds. He clocked in at 8.16 seconds in the prelims.
The men's distance medley relay (DMR) team of
Berhe Usman,
Deiondre Williams,
Samuel Hydro and
Pau Valderrama placed fourth at 9:58.66, which was an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Another DMR team made up of
Wimach Gilo,
Evan DiBlasi,
Keelan Aita and
Peter Cuddy placed 10th at 10:34.14.
In triple jump,
Tyrease Dutton-Bicalho placed fifth at 45 feet-4.5 inches.
Griffon track and field has two events coming up this week. Some will head to the Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, KS, while more will head to the Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, KS. Both meets take place Feb. 14-15.
