Lacrosse set to conclude home state against Westminster and Colorado-Colorado Springs

MWSU will kick off the week against WU on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo.  - Fresh off their first win of the season last Sunday, Griffon Lacrosse (1-1) returns to Spratt Stadium to host Westminster (Utah) on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

TOP GRIFFON PERFORMERS
Senior attack/midfielder Sam Pruitt leads the team with 12 points after two games. The Ellisville native has scored a team-leading eight goals and provided four assists. Additionally, she has secured seven draws and collected four ground balls.
 
Junior Jessica Brook currently ranks second on the team with 11 points, consisting of eight goals and four assists (2nd-GLVC). This follows a record-setting game in which she made seven assists against CSU Pueblo. Fellow junior Caetryn Gilreath has also excelled, scoring seven goals, three of which were scored in the last game against the ThunderWolves.
 
Defensively, sophomore Brooke Tjernlund leads the team with eight draws while also collecting five ground balls and causing four turnovers.
 
Sophomore goalie Ava Garaway (1-1) earned her first career win last weekend, finishing the match with eight saves and three ground balls. She heads into the week with 19 saves and an 11.00 goals-against average.
 
ABOUT THE GRIFFINS
Westminster finished the 2024 campaign 6-9 (5-5 RMAC) and was picked to finish fourth with 14 points in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
The Griffins head into tomorrow's match with a record of 1-1. They opened the season with a 16-11 win against Saint Michael's College but fell to Dominican last Saturday in California.
 
The player to watch for WU is sophomore attack Jordan Williamson. The Reno, Nevada, native leads the team with seven points and has collected seven ground balls in two starts this season.
 
Goalie Gabriella Cheminant (1-1) carries an 11.43 goals-against average heading into the weekend. The senior has recorded 15 saves and picked her first win of the season against Saint Michaels in the season-opener.
 
Thursday marks the second-ever meeting between the two programs. Missouri Western won the only previous matchup, 15-13, in St. Joseph in 2022.
 
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
Colorado Springs-Colorado finished the 2024 season 7-9 (5-5 RMAC) and was picked to finish third in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 16 points.
 
On Tuesday, the Mountain Lions opened the 2025 season with an 18-13 win over Davenport. Before their match with MWSU, they will play Rockhurst on Thursday in Kansas City.
 
UCCS's player to watch is sophomore Emma Grace Martin. The attacker from Colorado Springs leads the team with eight points after scoring five goals and three assists against the Panthers last time out.
 
Goalie Jordan Nunez (1-0) earned the win in the season opener yesterday despite not starting. The sophomore has an 8.00 goals-against average and has made three saves.
 
Saturday marks the fifth all-time meeting between the Griffons and the Mountain Lions. Last year, Western evened the season series at 2-2 with their second consecutive win against the Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs. MWSU will aim for their first victory at Spratt Stadium against the UCCS.
