Offensive slugfests spotlight Senior Day

ST. JOSEPH, MO. – Pittsburg State University and Missouri Western State University gave the crowd at MWSU's Griffon Field plenty of scoreboard fireworks Saturday, April 20.

The top-10 ranked Gorillas and host Griffons produced 29 runs and 47 hits during Senior Day 2024 action. Head coach Joe Yegge's squad gave the MIAA powers all they could handle, leading 9-7 in the opener and trailing only 5-3 midway through the nightcap. However, PSU managed to scrap out a 10-9, eight inning win in game one and 6-4 decision in game two.

Infielder Abby Dickey (Papillion, Neb.), one of the four Class of 2024 honorees, smashed a pair of doubles and scored twice, while sophomore infielder Kalee Higdon (Gretna, Neb.) tallied three hits and two doubles in game one. Junior catcher Kennedy Preston (Des Moines, Iowa) drilled a two-run home run in the nightcap to spotlight the Gold and Black's efforts. Yegge's crew delivered 11 extra-base hits over the two contests.

MWSU (26-18, 10-12 MIAA) concludes its 2024 home schedule Tuesday, April 23. Game time is 3 p.m.
