Singles run not enough for Griffs

Box Score ST. JOSEPH, MO. – A trio featuring senior Anais Peralta Criado (Sevilla, Spain), graduate student Maria Saez (Alicante, Spain) and sophomore Cristina Granero Boj (Malaga, Spain) gave NCAA Division II top-15 ranked Washburn College a scare Wednesday, April 17.

Head coach Alejandro de la Torre's group each collected straight-set decisions against their Ichabod foes at Noyes Tennis Courts. It was a dominant stretch, as the Gold and Black victors only dropped 12 total games.

Unfortunately, Missouri Western State University's charges couldn't overcome their MIAA foes. A tough luck three-set loss at number two singles added in with a doubles sweep and decisions at number five and six singles turned the tide in a 4-3 final.

The Griffons (12-3 overall, 3-2 MIAA) look to snap their modest two-dual skid Friday, April 19. Northwest Missouri State University comes to town for a 4 p.m. start. MWSU's seniors will be honored during the afternoon.
