De La Torre's comes with an impressive track record as a graduate assistant coach at St. Mary's University, where he helped the women's team achieve a top 15 ITA ranking and reach the NCAA Elite Eight Tournament and his contribution to the men's team achieving their top 25 ITA ranking as an NCAA South Central Regionals finalist in 2021.

Coming from Madrid, Spain, De La Torre is a former collegiate tennis player from Division II North Greenville University in South Carolina. He also coaches at the prestigious Sanchez-Casal Academy in Florida and the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain. With his vast experience as a student-athlete and coach, there's no doubt that he'll take the Griffons to greater heights.

Replacing Olaya Garrido-Rivas, who left MWSU to become head coach at NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Griffons had a successful season in 2021 with a 12-6 record, but missed an NCAA Regional Tournament.

His experience as a student-athlete and coach, as well as his enthusiasm and drive, make him the perfect fit for the team's upward trajectory of success in all facets of their three C's – classroom, community and competition. 

Under De La Torre's leadership, the Griffons have accomplished historic achievements in 2022. They beat Northwest Missouri State for the first time since 1985 and reached the program's first-ever MIAA championship game. They also made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998, won their first-round match against Harding, and made it to the Sweet 16 off of their highest ITA ranking at No. 25. The 2023 season included multiple players with national rankings on ITA and a trip to the Sweet 16.Â
