HAYS, KAN. – Six innings of lockdown bullpen pitching coupled with a 14-hit offensive attack enabled Missouri Western State to rally for a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association road win Friday, March 29.
Fort Hays State, less than 24 hours removed from a 14-3 game one series win on their home Larks Field, came out just as they ended the March 29. A two-run double in the first and two-run homer in the second put them up 4-0. From that point on, the Griffons answered.
Graduate student reliever Zach Cushing (Topeka, Kan.) was nearly untouchable, firing five innings, allowing only three hits and striking out six over five frames. Junior closer
Robert Farrell (Joliet, Ill.) kept it going, pitching a clean ninth inning. On the offensive side, sophomore third baseman
Jackson Bryant (Aurora, Colo.) kept his red-hot bat on fire, producing his third successive multiple-hit outing with four safeties that included a pair of doubles and two RBI. Junior shortstop
Blake Anderson (Overland Park, Kan.) clobbered a round-tripper as part of two hits, while senior outfielder
Ryan Koval (Olathe, Kan.) and junior outfielder
Rogelio Berumen (Edwardsville, Ill.) also picked up two hits each.
MWSU (15-16, 7-12 MIAA) closes out the loop set against Fort Hays State Saturday, March 30. Game time is 1 p.m.
