MARYVILLE, Mo. - Makenzie Garr scored a victory in the shot put, while Lillian Cutler and Pau Valderrama scored wins in distance events at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic at the Hughes Fieldhouse in Maryville Saturday.

Garr got the gold medal and set an NCAA Provisional mark with a throw of 15.08 meters. Allyssa Mahone placed fourth in shot put with a mark of 14.12 meters - also an NCAA Provisional mark.

Mahone also placed third in the women's weight throw at 17.98 meters, setting an NCAA Provisional mark there as well.

Cutler claimed victory in the mile with a time of 5:10:45 - a new PR. On the men's side, Valderrama scored a win in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:59.69, edging out Lukas Mehl of Park University by 0.12 seconds.

On the women's side, Sydney Mcneeley set an indoor PR in the 60 meter dash at 8.22 seconds. Mcneeley placed 4th in the 400 at 1:00.99, while Yesenia Carillo placed 6th at 1:01.86 - a new indoor PR.

Meanwhile in Topeka, at the Washburn Alumni Invite, Missouri Western's Haley Sampson placed fourth in the long jump with a new PR of 5.45 meters. Sampson also PR'd in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.94 seconds in prelims.

Also in Topeka, Alex Thompson placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.14 seconds. He clocked in at 8.12 in the prelims - both were NCAA Provisional marks.

Staying in Topeka, Tyrease Dutton-Bicalho placed third in triple jump at 13.99 meters. In women's triple jump, Abbey Henry placed fifth at 10.79 meters.

Missouri Western resumes the indoor track and field season on January 18 in Maryville for the Coach Alsup Invitational.
