Brady's five goals help Griffs bounce back in 24-2 win

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Griffon Lacrosse took care of business on Sunday, winning in 24-2 fashion against Concordia-Ann Arbor on the back of a 10-0 first quarter, three total shutout quarters and five individual hat tricks at the Superior Dome.

Madison Brady was in top form to lead the Griffons (1-1), scoring five goals on seven shots, with all of them on goal. The Griffons also received hat tricks from Karlin York, Sam Pruitt, Caetryn Gilreath and Jessica Brook

Tara Drinane and Nicole Bordo led the Cardinals (0-1) with one goal each. No Cardinal had more than one shot, and only four total players recorded shots for Concordia-Ann Arbor.

The first quarter started fast for MWSU, with Pruitt scoring the opening goal inside of two minutes thanks to an assist from Hallie Clark. Two more Griffon goals came in rapid succession, both scored by Gilreath. Her first was a free-position shot, and her second came from a Pruitt assist. In total, the Griffons scored five goals in the first seven minutes of the game, with Gilreath completing her hat trick and Brady getting her first. Brady completed her hat trick as well before the quarter was up, and York scored two in the quarter as well. Jordan Coulon scored also for the Griffons in the quarter, who led 10-0 at the break.

The second quarter was the only time Concordia found any success, with two goals coming in the span of just over two minutes for the Cardinals. Pruitt completed her hat trick in the quarter after Brady opened the scoring in the second, and Mikaela Ness joined Brook in scoring the final two goals of the half. The Griffons led at the break, 14-2.

The Griffons continued to extend the lead in the third, once again pitching a shutout. Brady once again ignited the scoring right before Ness found her second of the game. York polished off her hat trick shortly after, and Coulon, Brook and K.C. Ossello finished out the barrage in the third. Missouri Western finished the quarter up, 20-2.

Quarter number four started slow, but Ossello ripped home a goal at the eight-minute mark to relight the Griffons' scoring attack. Maleah Sosa netted her first goal of the yea right before Brook tallied her third goal and the hat trick. Pruitt finished the scoring with just under two minutes remaining, securing her third goal of the day to seal the 24-2 win.
