ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — For the first 50 minutes of Thursday's home opener vs. No 8 Regis, Griffon Lacrosse gave the Rangers everything they wanted and then some in an 11-7 loss at Spratt Stadium.
Missouri Western (1-2) took a quick 2-0 lead thanks to goals from
Karlin York and
Jordan Coulon right out of the gate. Regis (3-0) responded right back with two-straight scores of its own, eventually leaving the game deadlocked at 3-3 after one period and in favor of the Rangers at the break, 6-4.
York's fourth goal of the day at at the 3:04 mark of the third quarter cut Regis' lead to 7-6, giving the Griffons a potential upset bid against a returning NCAA Tournament team. However, a 4-0 Ranger run to start the fourth quarter put MWSU behind, 11-6. A late
Sam Pruitt goal with 18 seconds left cut the deficit to 11-7, but the Griffons simply ran out of time to close out the game.
