Griffons notch first home win of the season against Colorado Springs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Lacrosse scored its first home win of the season on Sunday, beating University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at Spratt Stadium, 11-5.

Madison Brady led the charge for the Griffons (2-2), scoring four goals in the win. Sam Pruitt added two goals and two assists to match Brady's point total of four.

Five different players scored for UCCS (0-5) in the loss, with Erica Rivera leading the team with four shots and two total points.

The Griffons took off running in the first half, scoring the first three points. Freshman Maleah Sosa opened the scoring with her second career goal. UCCS never got closer than two goals. The Griffons led at halftime, 5-1.

The momentum swung completely to MWSU after a UCCS goal was disallowed due to a crease violation. The Griffons netted a goal directly after to make the score 6-3, staying that way until halftime.

The second half saw MWSU in cruise control, with the Griffons controlling possession and draws with ease. Brady found her fourth goal of the game as time ran out in the fourth quarter, and the Griffons took the win, 11-5.
