Box Score O'FALLON, Ill. — Missouri Western Tennis took two points in singles off Division I Saint Louis University on Tuesday night, but fell 5-2 to the Billikens.
DOUBLES
The Griffons (3-1) played well in doubles, not giving SLU (7-1) any breathing room.
Izzi MacGibbon and
Cristina Granero Boj both fell, 6-4, to Norhan Hesham and Mya Spencer, and
Anya Chavez and
Anais Peralta Criado also lost by the same score to Kseniia Aleshina and Elizabeth Mintusova.
Lucia Casas Blas and
Nicole Donnelly did not finish their match against Sandra Gines and Fiorella Duran, but they were up 6-5 when the game cut off due to Saint Louis securing the doubles point.
SINGLES
MacGibbon fell to Mintusova in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Chavez won the first Griffon point of the day in No. 2 singles, beating Hesham. 6-3, 6-2. Granero Boj fell in three sets to Duran, 6-0, 2-6, 4-6 in the No. 3 single play. Peralta Criado was defeated by Aleshina, 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 spot, and Donnelly fell to Spencer in at No. 5, 2-6, 6-0, 4-6. The Griffs secured their second point of the day in No. 6 singles, as Casas Blas took down Gines 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
NOTABLES
- This was the Griffons first duel match against a Division I university since Feb. 26, 2017, when they took on Creighton.
- The singles losses were the first any Griffon has taken this season.
- This is the first time the Griffons have dropped more than one point in a duel match this year.
